Sgt. 1st Class Robert Wayne Pharris, age 48, of the Missouri National Guard, died on January 5, 2011, of wounds he suffered in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. Insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
Sgt. Pharris served as an agriculture specialist with an agribusiness development team of the Guard. His son, a Marine Corps corporal, is also serving in Afghanistan. Sgt. Pharris is from Seymour, Missouri.
Sgt. Pharris enlisted in the Army in 1981 and later joined the National Guard. He left the Guard in 1997 and rejoined it in 2008 after he learned that the Guard was forming an infantry unit. His commander describes Robert Pharris as the “most energetic and enthusiastic” soldier he’s ever met.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Robert Wayne Pharris is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
