He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. Justin Cain, a machine gunner, was killed by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 19, 2007, and has received numerous awards for service, including the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal, according to the release.
