Andrew Griffiths

British Soldier Captain Andrew Griffiths, of the 2nd Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, died of battlefield injuries on September 5, 2010. His father was Brigadier Mike Griffiths, head of the Army's disciplinary service. It is believed to be the first time the son of a serving Army officer has been killed in Afghanistan.

The family of Capt Griffiths, age 25, said he would be "hugely missed for the joy he brought into our lives". His commanding officer called him an "inspirational leader". Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Boyd said: "Griff was an officer with courage, charm, values, humility and above all a sense of fun."

Capt Griffiths, of Richmond, North Yorks, was wounded by a Taliban bomb in Helmand on August 24. He died in hospital in Birmingham.  Last night one senior Army source said: "Like any parent of a soldier killed in Afghanistan, the Brigadier is devastated by the news. He was immensely proud of his son."  Andrew Griffiths was killed by a rocket propelled grenade in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  His fiancĂ©e Lynsey, of Greenock, Scotland, added: "Joe was a wonderful dad of boys aged seven and two."

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Andrew Griffiths is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
