Derek Farley

Staff Sgt. Derek Farley, who received a Purple Heart in Iraq after losing his hearing in one ear from a bomb explosion, died at 5 a.m. August 17, 2010, while trying to take apart an improvised explosive device in Kafar, Afghanistan. They recalled the young soldier from Nassau as a man of integrity.

He was awarded with a Purple Heart in 2007 for being wounded during his service in Iraq.

"The world is much worse place now that he is not here any more." "He held himself to a higher standard."

Derek Farley was 24 years old. He was promoted last year to staff sergeant while preparing for Afghanistan as an explosives ordnance disposal technician with the 702nd Ordnance Co. in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Derek Farley is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
