Robert Rumfelt

Deputy Sheriff Rumfelt was a member of the Lake County Sheriff's Office. He had 3 years of service with the Sheriff's Office and had served for 9 years with the Lakeport Police Department.

He was known as Rob to his family and friends.

At 8:00 p.m. Rob and other law enforcement officers responded to a call that a fight had broken out in a residential area in Lakeport. About four or five people were involved in the turmoil. One of them resisted arrest and had to be tased before being taken into custody.

When Rob drove away from the scene at the conclusion of the incident, he suffered a medical emergency which caused his patrol car to crash. It is believed that Rob had suffered a heart attack in his vehicle.

Rob was rushed to a hospital in Lakeport where, tragically, he passed away.

Rob was a lifelong Lake County resident. He was sworn in as a Lakeport police officer in 1997. In 2006 he left law enforcement to work overseas as a private contractor teaching law enforcement tactics. In 2014 he began working for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. He served as a training officer and firearms instructor. Rob was also an assistant football coach at Clear Lake High School.
Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Rob and for
those who have lost him.

The members of the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the members of the Lakeport Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Rob was known as a mentor to young deputies in the Sheriff's Office. He will be forever remembered.

Rob's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was loved. He did his best.  He will be forever mourned.

Rob is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother and father, his sister, his wife and two daughters.

Thank you for your service to the community, Rob.
