Mike was a member of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. He had 20 years of service.
At about 8:08 p.m., Mike and other officers were responding to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex in Port Charlotte.
The call involved a man in a physical fight with his wife and son. As Corporal Wilson walked up to the stairs to the apartment the male subject emerged and opened fire from the second floor landing, firing downward and striking Corporal Wilson in the chest above his vest.
The suspect, Jay Vanko, age 49, then committed suicide.
