John Hammack - Firefighter - Oregon

John Hammack, age 59, of Redmond, Oregon, died in the line of duty on August 1, 2013, near Dugout Lake in the Mount Washington Wilderness Area of Oregon.

John was a contract firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service - Deschutes National Forest.

He and another firefighter were cleaning away hazardous trees in the vicinity of a wildfire in central Oregon when a portion of a tree fell on him, fatally injuring him.

Family members describe him as a strong man, who was strong-willed, and up-front. He never sugar-coated anything. He is also described as the best dad.

Friends describe him as a gifted, hard working man.
Saint Florian, Patron

John came from a family of loggers. He did a lot of rodeo work in Central Oregon and has been honoured by the rodeo community for his contributions. John was an avid rodeo bareback rider who won many riding events over the years.

John is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Thank you for your service to the public, John.

Pray for all who die as a result of doing their job. Amen.

Pray that John is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
