Shamekia was a member of the Wheeling Police Department, Illinois. She was an evidence technician and a youth officer.
Shamekia had five years of service with the Department. She had previously served four years with the Hawthorn Woods Police Department.
On the evening of July 25, 2013, Shamekia was attending a work-related course on night-time photography when she collapsed. She was transported a medical facility. She passed away two days later of a blood clot in the lungs.
Police Officials describe her as calm with a firm demeanor, compassionate and understanding and able to handle any situation.

Shamekia was also a decorated Army veteran who had served in Kuwait and Iraq.
The Wheeling and Hawthorn Woods Police Departments are in mourning over her untimely death.
Shamekia is survived by many loving friends, comrades and relatives including her daughter (age 13).
