William Savage - British Military

Corporal William Savage, age 30, died on April 30, 2013, in the Nahr-e-Saraj District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb.

He was a member of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The battalion is based at the Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik, Midlothian. 

He was known as "Sav" to many of his military colleagues. 

William joined the British Army in April of 2003.

He had previously deployed to Iraq and twice before to Afghanistan. His current deployment to Afghanistan commenced in March of 2013.

Military officials describe William as an exceptional soldier, a dedicated leader and a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was a classic example of a Scottish infantryman; robust, committed and blessed with a fine line in banter. They are proud to have known him and will miss him dearly.

Military colleagues describe him as a good friend and a true professional, humble and well respected by his peers.

Friends describe him as a keen sportsman who enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities. He was enthusiastic about skiing and was a talented kayak instructor.

William's wife stated that she is devastated by his loss. She is proud of his

achievements. He is the love of her life. He will be forever loved.

William is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and son.
