Tech Sgt. Herman Tre Mackey III, age 30, of Bakersfield, California, died on May 3, 2013, in an aircraft crash near Chon-Aryk, Kyrgyzstan.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

He was assigned to the 93rd Air Refueling Squadron, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington.

He was known as Tre to his family and friends.

Tre Mackey graduated from Bakersfield High School in 2001 and immediately entered the Air Force.

Military officials stated that Tre will be remembered as a patriot and a hero.

Loved ones describe Tre as a stranger to no one, and a man who was always there to lend to hand to anyone who needed it. He is described as having a sense of humor and a smile to go with it. He is also described as having a heart of gold.

Tre is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother; his siblings;
