Gene Kirchner - Firefighter - Maryland

Gene Kirchner, age 25, died on May 2, 2013, at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Gene was a volunteer member of the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company. He had about 10 years of service. He had started volunteering at age 14.

Gene was one of the first firefighters to respond to a house fire on Hanover Road early on the morning of April 24.

He tried to save a man trapped inside. Gene Kirchner was found unconscious on the second floor when a county response team arrived. He may have been overcome by smoke.

Fire department officials stated that they are deeply grieving the loss of Gene. He will be greatly missed.

Friends stated that Gene was selfless, well-liked, funny, and got along with everybody.

Gene is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his twin brother, Will and his sister, Shelly.
