Daryl was a member of the Phoenix Police Department. He had 6 years of service.
At approximately 3:30 am Officer Raetz and several other officers were was processing a drunk driving suspect on the side of a road when a passing SUV struck Officer Raetz. He was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he died.
The driver of the SUV fled the scene and remains at large.

Daryl was a veteran of the Iraq war.
Police officials stated that the Police Department is in mourning.
Daryl is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and child.
