James Steel - U.S. Military

Capt. James Michael Steel, age 29, of Tampa, Florida, died on April 3, 2013, in the crash of an F-16 near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 77th Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.

James was flying the aircraft back to base when the crash happened.  The cause of the crash is unknown as of this posting.

James graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2006.  He completed his pilot training in June of 2010. 
He was the chief of mobility for his squadron.

Military officials stated that James was a proud airman. He made the ultimate sacrifice. He will be missed.

James is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his mother, Dee; his father Robert (a retired Air Force Major); his twin brother, Jonathan; and his younger brother, Christopher.
