Eugene Crum - Law Enforcement - West Virginia

Sheriff Eugene Crum died in the line of duty on April 3, 2013, in Williamson, West Virginia.

Eugene was a member of the Mingo County Sheriff's Office. He had 12 years of service.

Sheriff Crum was eating lunch in his vehicle while conducting surveillance on a suspected illegal pharmaceutical operation. A vehicle pulled alongside and a subject exited the vehicle and shot Sheriff Crum four times at point-blank range.

The suspect fled the scene and crashed during the pursuit near Hell Creek. He was shot during an exchange of gunfire with a Mingo County deputy and was apprehended.

Eugene Crum led a drug task force and an initiative called Operation Zero Tolerance, making good on a campaign pledge to eliminate drugs in Mingo County.  It is unknown as of this posting if the death of Eugene Crum is related his stance against drugs.

Colleagues stated that Eugene was a great guy, helpful and with a positive attitude.

He was devoted to serving the Community and devoted to his kids and grandkids. 

Eugene is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Rosie, and his children and grandchildren.
