Brett Gornewicz

Spc. Brett E. Gornewicz, age 27, of Alden, New York, died on November 3, 2012, in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 178th Engineer Battalion, 412th Theater Engineer Command, Oswego, New York.

Brett graduated in 2003 from Alden High School. Friends at school describe him as a team player. 

He graduated in 2011 from Buffalo State College with a bachelor of science degree in industrial technology.

He had previously served a tour of duty in Iraq.

He had been home on leave in August of 2012.  He loved spending time with his family and friends. 

Friends describe him as selfless, patriotic, committed to the Army and having a great sense of humour. 

Other friends describe him as a great guy who would do anything for anyone. 

Brett is survived by many loving friends and relatives.
