Kelley was attending a defensive tactics training course at the Oklahoma City Police Academy.
He was completing a six-minute test with an instructor when he was thrown to the ground and struck the back of his head on a mat. He remained conscious but was unable to stand up again after striking his head. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to internal head injuries the following day.
Michael, Archangel, Patron Saint of the Police, pray for Kelley and for his children who have lost their father. |
As a result of this tragic accident, Police recruits will now be required to wear helmets during self-defense training.
Kelley was a U.S. Air Force veteran with 15 years of service. He had been stationed at Tinker Air Force Base. He left the Air Force in 2011. He was hoping that a police career would allow him more time to be with his family.

Kelley had been sworn in as a police officer only five months earlier at the beginning of his police academy session.
Kelley is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and two children, ages 2 and 3.
Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
Thank you for serving, Kelley.
Let us pray that Kelley Chase is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
