Yoann Marcillan

French Soldier Brigadier Yoann Marcillan, age 24, died on June 9, 2012, in the Nijrab district of Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from a suicide bombing.

A Taliban suicide bomber disguised as a woman and wearing a burqa, walked up to a group of French soldiers in a public market and blew himself up. Four French soldiers were killed in the explosion and five others wounded.

Yoann had served France for more than 4 years. He joined the Army in October of 2007 - the 40th Regiment (40th AR - Suippes). He had previously served in New Caledonia and Kosovo. 

His awards and decorations include the bronze medal of National Defence (staple guns), the French Commemorative Medal clasp "Former Yugoslavia" and the NATO Medal clasp "Kosovo". 

Military officials describe him as a team player, motivated, quick-witted, enthusiastic and capable.

Yoann was unmarried and had no children. 

Yoann is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Let us pray that Yoann Marcillan is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
