He was assigned to the Enterprise as a logistics specialist. The Enterprise is currently deployed to the Fifth Fleet area of responsibility conducting operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Richard had served the Navy for 28 years. He joined the Navy in 1984 and had been on the Enterprise since April of 2011.

Family members stated that Richard loved his job and his family. They also said that he had a sense of integrity.
Military officials stated that Richard was well-known and well-liked by his comrades.
Richard is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his wife, Anne; and his daughter and son.
