Mike was a member of the Upton County Sheriff's Department in Texas. He had 2 1/2 years of service.
He was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a fire at an oil tank battery just before 7:00 a.m. He was traveling northbound on Route 349, north of Rankin, when an oil-field truck crossed the center line and struck his patrol car head-on.

Police officials describe Mike as irreplaceable and a good man who made everybody laugh.
Mike is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
Let us pray that Michael Smith is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
