She was leaving her apartment complex at 7 a.m. on her way to work, when she was accosted in the parking lot of her building. Neighbours stated that they heard her shout "Leave me alone!" and then saw a man repeatedly stab her. Kaila died soon thereafter in the hospital.
Neighbours ran to her aid and one man pursued the suspect on a bicycle but the suspect escaped.
Kaila graduated from Kelvin High School in 2004 and attended the University of Manitoba. She worked at Teleco Supply Company as a business relationship manager. She lived in the apartment complex with her boyfriend.

Friends describe Kaila as energetic, positive and like family. Her presence could light up a room.
Others stated that she was a loving and giving soul.
Kaila is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her sister.
Charged with first degree murder are Drake Moslenko, age 27, and Treyvonne Willis, age 20. Drake Moslenko is alleged to have hired Treyvonne Willis to kill Kaila Tran.
Drake Moslenko was Kaila's boyfriend, with whom she was living at the time of her murder.
