He was found beaten near to death in his Palms office at approximately 8:15 a.m.. It seem obvious that he had just showed up for work. His wallet is missing and robbery is suspected as a motive. He may have been followed by the suspect as he walked to work. He was transported to a medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries.
Anyone with information on the murder is urged to call the LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide Unit at ((213) 382-9470 or (877) LAPD-24-7. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the conviction of the murderer of Robert Rainey.

Robert was raised in Santa Monica, one of three children of Ford Rainey, a well-known character actor in television and films. After attending Humboldt State, Rainey returned to L.A. and opened a chiropractic practice. He felt strongly about his work, his family said, and had a loyal following of patients for 15 years.
Family members describe Robert as popular, vigorous and full of life. He is also described as big, strong but gentle and kind.
It has been stated that Robert would provide service free of charge to his patients who could not afford his services. And that he would give money to the homeless who lived near his office.
Running was his passion and friends who ran with him in the group called the Santa Monica Mountain Goats, said that he will be sorely missed.
Robert is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his wife, Peggy; his brother James Rainey and another sibling. He was predeceased by his father, Ford Rainey.
God save us from the thieves who stalk the Earth stealing away life. Amen.
