Bruce was a Clinical Staff Nurse who came on active duty with the Army in September 2006. He received his nursing degree from the College at Brockport in 2006. He was previously stationed at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.

Family members describe him as all-American, an amazing nurse and an amazing father, brother, husband, and son. He became a nurse because he didn't want anyone to suffer.
