Jeremy Tighe - Firefighter - Indiana

Volunteer Firefighter, Jeremy Ryan Tighe, age 18, died in the line of duty on February 22, 2012, in Vanderburgh County, Indiana.

Jeremy was a member of the McCutchanville Fire Department, in Evansville, Indiana.

Firefighter Tighe passed away from injuries sustained when the apparatus he was riding in was involved in a single motor vehicle accident. According to initial reports, the apparatus left the roadway onto the shoulder and tipped on its' side, striking a power utility pole causing extensive damage to the crew compartment, before coming to a final resting position in a drainage ditch. Firefighter Tighe was reported to have been wearing seat restraints. The driver of the apparatus was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The engine had cleared the scene of a residential carbon monoxide check, stopped for fuel, and was returning to the station when the incident occurred.

Jeremy graduated in 2011 from Evansville Central High School graduate. He had joined the department through its cadet program 18 months ago and had been a full-fledged firefighter since he first turned 18.

Fire Department officials describe Jeremy as a great kid, who was part of their firefighting family and who was always trying to make people laugh. They also stated that he was motivated, and dedicated to the fire service.

Jeremy is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Jerry Johnson; and his girlfriend, Krissy Taylor.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.
