Matthew was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment in the 3rd Infantry Divison’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team.
He was found unresponsive in his barracks.
He was a 2007 Lisbon Regional School graduate. He entered the Army in January 2009 as a cavalry scout. After training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he was assigned to the 3rd Brigade in May 2009. He had previously served in Iraq.

High School officials describe him as a determined young man and a hard worker.
Family members stated that he was an amazing son, who was loved and respected by many. They also stated that they are proud of Matthew for serving his country and for his accomplishments.
Matthew is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Rena Woods.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Matthew Woods is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
