Benjamin D. Rast

Seaman Benjamin D. Rast, age 23, of Niles, Michigan., died April 6, 2011, while conducting a dismounted patrol northeast of Patrol Base Alcatraz, Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Benjamin Rast was assigned as a hospitalman to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. Benjamin was stationed at Naval Medical Center, Expeditionary Medical Force Detachment, San Diego, Calif.

Officials stated that Benjamin was a remarkable sailor who was respected by his peers and co-workers for his integrity and strong work ethic, and was frequently complimented by his patients.

Benjamin enlisted in 2009 and was assigned in November 2010 to a Marine unit bound for Afghanistan.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Benjamin D. Rast is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
