Johnathan Dunbar - U.S. Military Fatality - Syria

Master Sgt. Johnathan J. Dunbar, age 36, of Austin, Texas, died in the line of duty on March 30, 2018, in Manbij, Syria.

Master Sgt. Dunbar was assigned to Headquarters, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Johnathan was in the vicinity when an improvised explosive device detonated. 

Tragically, Johnathan was mortally wounded and succumbed to his injuries. 

Tragically, UK Sergeant Matt Tonroe was also killed in the explosion. 

The incident is under investigation. 

Johnathan was serving in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, which is the U.S. Military operation against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Johnathan was born in International Falls, Minnesota, and graduated in 1999 from John B. Connally High School in Austin, Texas. 

He first entered the United States Army as an Infantryman in May of 2005. 

He had previously served deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), the Army Achievement Medal (6th Award), the Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), the NATO Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Military Freefall Jumpmaster Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.

Johnathan's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their brother. He died in the service of America. He will be forever remembered.

Johnathan's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He was loved. He will be forever mourned.

Oceans of tears have been shed for Johnathan. 

Johnathan is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.
