Sean Cullen - State Trooper Fatality - New Jersey

Sean Cullen 

Trooper Sean Cullen, age 31, died in the line of duty on March 8, 2016, at a hospital in Camden, New Jersey.

Trooper Cullen was a member of the New Jersey State Police. He had a year and a half of service. He had previously served with the Westampton Police Department for two years. He currently served at both the Bellmawr and Buena Vista trooper stations.

On March 7, 2016, at around 8 p.m., Sean had responded to a vehicle fire and reports of injured persons on I-295 in Deptford Township. He was walking at the scene of the accident when he was struck by a passing vehicle which also plowed into the vehicle that was on fire.

Sean was airlifted to a hospital in Camden, where tragically, he died of his injuries on March 8, 2016.

The 22 year old female driver who struck Sean remained at the scene and did not flee.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Sean was born in Dublin, Ireland. He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1988. He attended Cinnaminson High School in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, where he was into wrestling. He is described by friends there as a hard worker with real goals. He had studied criminal justice at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Sean's brother is also a New Jersey State Police trooper.

The New Jersey State Troopers are in mourning over the death of their brother. Sean had always wanted to join the State Police. He was a professional who was an asset to the team. He was a genuinely great guy who was well respected and well liked by his comrades. He will be forever remembered.

Sean's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He had a quick wit and was proud of his Irish heritage. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Sean is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his mother and father, his two brothers, his sister, his fiancée and his infant son.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and then are suddenly gone. Sometimes they don't hear us say how much we love them.
