Scot Fitzgerald - Police Officer - Illinois

Police Officer Scot Fitzgerald, age 32, died in the line of duty on March 5, 2016, at a hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Scot Fitzgerald

Officer Fitzgerald was a member of the South Jacksonville Police Department. Scott served as a police officer, a firefighter and an Emergency Medical Technician. He had a year and a half of service with the Department and prior years of service with other law enforcement agencies in Illinois.

South Jacksonville is a village in Morgan County with a population of around 3,500.

On March 4, 2016, just before 9 p.m, Scot was responding to a medical emergency near Murrayville in Morgan County. However, the address of the emergency could not be found and Scot pulled over to the right shoulder of the roadway and then attempted to make a u-turn. He accidentally pulled into the path of the ambulance that was also responding to this medical call.

Michael, Patron Saint of the
Police, pray for Scot and
for those who have lost him.
Scot and the three ambulance staff were transported to local hospitals where, tragically, Scot died of his injuries.

Friends describe Scot as kind, generous and loving.

The South Jacksonville Police Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. Scot would do anything for anybody. He could be relied upon. He will be forever remembered.

Scot's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He loved his family and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Scot is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two young children.

Thank you for your service to the community, Scot.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Scot is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
