The vastness of the Universe

On April 18, 2015, a fast radio burst from outer space was observed in eastern Australia.

Radio bursts are invisible to the human eye and only last a fraction of a second but emit a huge amount of energy. This energy is detectable.

Astronomers believe that this burst came from a galaxy about 6 billion light years away from Earth and that it was due to the collision of two stars.

Light travels at the speed of 186,000 miles per second.

One light year is about 6,000,000,000,000 miles away.

Six billion light years is 36,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles away.

The universe is vast and is ever expanding. 

It is estimated that there are 100 billion Earth-like planets in the Universe.

Therefore, anyone who thinks that the Earth is the center of the Universe is wrong.

Anyone who thinks that God is only concerned with Earth is also wrong.

God has other issues to deal with, including the governance of millions of other planets which harbor intelligent life.

God does not have his finger on our pulse alone. He is occupied elsewhere and everywhere.

Therefore, we have to look after our own planet. 

We have to clean up our own mess. We can't rely on God to do it for us. 

Let's all work:

toward an end to continual war and destruction
toward justice and equality
toward religious tolerance
toward providing peace and safety, lodging, food, clean water, health care, and the necessities of life for everyone, world-wide. 

Everyone on Earth has the right to live in peace. Everyone has the right to justice. 

God help us to achieve this goal. Amen.
