Johnny Gatson |
Deputy Gatson was a member of the Warren County Sheriff's Office, based in Vicksburg.
On February 23, 2015, Johnny was on duty and was responding to a motor vehicle crash when his patrol car struck a patch of black ice, skidded and struck a tree. He suffered a fractured leg from the collision. He was treated and released from the hospital.
He was on medical leave and was recovering at home. On March 10, 2015, he started to experience shortness of breath and became unresponsive. He was rushed to a local hospital where tragically he passed away due to a pulmonary embolism as a result of the injury to his leg.
Johnny had graduated from Alcorn State University in 1977.
Johnny was a Marine Corps veteran with 15 years of service. He worked for a
number of years in the private sector before deciding to go into law enforcement. He graduated from the Mississippi Delta Law Enforcement Academy in Morehead.

He then served with the Warren County Sheriff's Office, the Canton Police Department and the Simpson County Sheriff's Office.
The Warren County Sheriff's Office is in mourning over the death of their brother. Johnny is described as a very professional officer who cared about his community. He was soft spoken and was a gentleman. He was a good guy. He will be forever remembered.
Johnny's loved ones are devastated over his tragic death. He will be forever mourned.
Johnny is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife.
