Kalonda Hawkins; Logan Calhoun |
During the early morning hours, Kalonda was driving when she was struck by another vehicle which flipped over her car, trapping her inside. She was only a block from her home. She was injured fatally.
Kalonda was an employee of the Audubon Nature Institute. This is a popular zoo and aquarium facility in New Orleans.
Logan Calhoun, age 21, from Texas, has been arrested in connection with this accident. It is alleged that he was drunk at the time of the collision and that he ran through a stop sign just before he crashed into Kalonda's vehicle. The police said that his blood alcohol limit was 3 times the allowed amount, that he was swaying on his feet and that he slurred his words.
Advice To All Drivers: If you find that you are wasted, drunk or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi; or stay where you are until
you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.
Regret can last a lifetime.
Angels of God, pray for Kalonda and for those who have lost her. |
