Rui Gouveia - A Good Samaritan in Massachusetts

Rui Gouveia
In October of 2014, Rui Gouveia, age 41, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, was driving on his way to work on the overnight shift at the Massachusetts Treatment Center in Bridgewater.

He saw a car speed by him in the wrong lane. A few seconds later the car veered off of the road and smashed into a tree. The car turned upside down and started on fire.

Rui jumped out of his car and ran to the scene of the accident. He was worried that the fuel tank would explode. He managed to pull three occupants of the vehicle to safety - the 20 year old driver and two passengers, ages 18 and 19.

Seconds later the fire escalated and the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.

All three of the vehicle's occupants escaped injury due to the efforts of Rui Gouveia. He saved three lives.

The Good Samaritan comes
to the aid of strangers,
selflessly.

Rui works as a corrections officer and is a married father of one.

He stated that he tried to help because he didn't want the parents of these kids to have a cop come to their door and tell them that their children were dead.

The 20-year-old driver of the crashed vehicle is facing impaired driving charges.

God bless Rui Gouveia and all who come to the aid of strangers. They are the true heroes of the modern era. Amen.
