Kevin Gale Stauffer - Law Enforcement - Mississippi

Corporal Kevin Gale Stauffer, age 38, died in the line of duty on December 23, 2013, on a street in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Gale was a member of the Tupelo Police Department. He had 8 years of service with the Tupelo Department and one year with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Officer Stauffer and two other officers responded to a bank robbery in Tupelo at approximately 3:00 p.m.
As the officers approached the suspect(s), who were stopped in traffic at a railroad crossing, at least one subject opened fire on them at close range. Corporal Stauffer was shot in the head and died instantly. A second officer was critically wounded before the subject(s) fled in a vehicle.

The suspect(s) remain at large. The wounded officer is in the hospital in critical condition.

Gale was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from McKinley High in 1993. He was a combat veteran of the Louisiana National Guard.

He has posthumously been promoted to Sergeant by the Department.

The Tupelo Police Department is in mourning over the tragic death of their brother.

Gale is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife, Beth, and a 6 year old daughter and 2 year old son.
