At about 10:00 a.m., a robber, Van McDuffie, age 66, took a taxi to the branch with the intent of robbing it. McDuffie allegedly pushed at least two people during the robbery and approached a bank teller with a gun, saying, "This is a robbery. Give me all your money."
At that time, Charles Sperry told him to leave. He approached McDuffie and a scuffle ensued. McDuffie then shot Charles Sperry in the chest.

| Angels of God, pray for Charles |
The thieves, even though they are senior citizens themselves, will use their walkers, wheelchairs, taxis and buses to get to a place they can rob. God help us.
Joe Sperry, the son of Charles Sperry, the victim, stated: "Today I lost my father, my best friend, and my hero. I'm so angry, sad, and confused. I lay here now praying. Tell your loved ones you love them, please. Thank you to all my friends and loved ones. R.I.P. Dad."
Charles is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his son, Joe.
Pray for all who die while trying to do the "right thing". Amen.
God save us from the thieves. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Charles is in heaven. I pray you believe me. I pray for God to ease your pain. I pray the huge place Charles filled in your heart,you do not replace it anger.I pray the sinner who robbed you and so many,you remember it was Charles,remember how much Charles put into life,how much in others,I pray you remember how much Charles put of himself in you. I pray you don't miss him so much,you don't look for him because he all around you. In the faces of his friends,their tears,in their laughter while telling their stories of him,in this counties history and the strangers you'll meet. I pray you trust Charles and respect the choice's he's made. I pray you all know how much of Charles is in you and be proud. Lastly I pray you understand the theive took a life ,but not "the life of the man",named Charles "bob" Sperry his , a life lived is life earned a life a man can call is own.
