He stepped on a roadside explosive device, while on patrol about 5 kilometers from his Polish military base. He received immediate medical aid but could not be saved.
Jan was a member of the 1st battalion of the 21st Riflemens Brigade.

Jan is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and two sons, who will forever miss him.
Thank you for your service to Poland, Jan.
Pray without ceasing unto God for an end to this war in Afghanistan. It is enough. We are sick with grief for men like Jan.
Pray that Jan is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
