William Jerry McCarthy IV - Law Enforcement - Pennsylvania

Patrolman Jerry McCarthy died in the line of duty on May 2, 2013, on a street in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Jerry was a member of the Shenango Township Police Department. He worked part time for the Police Department and at the Lawrence County District Attorney's Office. He had 1 year of service.

New Castle Police were chasing a woman who would not stop her vehicle. Jerry and a fellow officer were responding to aid in the pursuit. The woman ran a stop sign and crashed into Jerry's cruiser car. He was pronounced deceased on the way to the hospital.

The woman who crashed into the Police vehicle had been arrested one month earlier for driving without a license. She was apprehended at the scene and faces multiple charges including manslaughter.

Police officials stated that the Department is in mourning over the loss of Jerry.

He is described as a valued officer and a great person. He was dedicated to helping those in need.

Jerry is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, two sons, a daughter and a step-daughter and a step-son.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty. Amen.
