Sara Knutson

Capt. Sara M. Knutson, age 27, of Eldersburg, Maryland, died on March 11, 2013, of injuries sustained from a helicopter crash in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

She was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.

Sara graduated in 2003 from Liberty High School.  We went on to West Point where she studied law and graduated in 2007.

Sara was married in November of 2012 and was deployed to Afghanistan in January of 2013.  Her husband, who is a former Black Hawk pilot, went to work with a private contracting firm in Afghanistan in February of 2013.

Sara was previously stationed in Alaska and had one other deployment to Pakistan.

Family members stated that Sara was intelligent, and fun-loving.  She enjoyed camping, snowboarding and judo. She also liked to sing and dance.  She had an infectious laugh.

Sara is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her mother and her husband. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.
