The cause of his death is under investigation.
He was assigned to 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.
James was a Kiowa pilot.

He joined the Army in August of 2001 and arrived at the unit in June of 2009. This was his fourth deployment. His awards include the Air Medal.
James is survived by many loving friends and relatives.
