Alexandre Van Dooren - killed in Mali

French Corporal Alexandre Van Dooren, age 24, died on March 16, 2013, near the city of Tessalit in northern Mali.

He was killed by an improvised explosive device that blew up the vehicle he was riding in.

He was a member of the 1st Marine Infantry regiment of Angoulême. He had been in the military for more than 3 years.

He was part of the campaign to push back a jihadist advance in Mali.

Military officials describe Alexandre as dynamic, responsible and hard-working. He showed great potential.

He had previously served in Djibouti and Guadeloupe.

Alexandre is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife who is pregnant and his child.
