Emily Morin, Mark Mitchell and Georgia Klap - fire tragedy in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Emily Morin and Mark Mitchell
Emily Morin, age 20, Mark Mitchell, age 26 and Georgia Klap, age 22, died on February 16, 2013, as a result of a house fire in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

The fire started during a house party, when a couch on the front porch began smouldering. Flames and smoke poured into the house when the front door was opened. The house was a multiple suite rental building.

Georgia Klap
Both Emily and Georgia died after being taken to a nearby hospital. Mark was already deceased.

Emily was studying Alternative Medicine at Pacific Rim College. She and Mark were a couple. Both graduated from the horticulture technician program at Camosun College in 2010 and worked on organic farms in the province as they started their careers. After graduating, Emily and Mark immediately travelled the province working on organic farms in exchange for room and board as part of the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms program. They were proud of a massive organic garden project they helped build in Campbell River - a two-acre farm producing food that was harvested and sold directly to locals through a weekly food-basket program.

Emily is described as friendly and kind and that “A glow emanated from her.” It was stated that Emily greatly loved her family.

Mark is described as quiet and reflective, intelligent and soft-spoken.

Georgia was a musician, dancer and idealistic young woman who wanted to make the world a better place.  She attended the University of Victoria and was interested in travel and other cultures. After graduating from high school, she spent a year at the Youth Initiative Program in Sweden. She also volunteered for Mosqoy, a charitable organization that offers remote communities in the Peruvian Andes opportunities for economic development while nurturing their threatened indigenous culture.

Let us pray that Emily Morin, Mark Mitchell and Georgia Klap are in heaven. Let us pray that they are at peace and are with God. Amen.
