David Barajas and Jose Banda - the worst drunk driving tragedy

David Barajas Jr., age 12, and Caleb Barajas, age 11, died on December 7, 2012, on a rural road near their home near Alvin, about 30 miles outside of Houston, Texas.

David Barajas Sr., age 31, his wife, Cindy and their 4 children - an 8 year old daughter, a 3 month old son, and David Jr. and Caleb were travelling home when their pick-up truck broke down close to their home.

David, the father and his two sons, David Jr. and Caleb, were pushing the truck the last few yards towards the house, on a dark rural road, when a car struck the rear of the vehicle. 

David Jr. died at the scene of the collision and Caleb died in the hospital.

The driver of the car that struck the boys was Jose Banda, age 20, who was intoxicated at the time of the collision.

It is alleged that David Barajas, the father of the boys, walked to his nearby house, got a gun and came back to the scene of the collision and shot Jose Banda in the head, killing him on the spot.

David Barajas has been charged with murder in this case.

Jose Banda, the intoxicated driver, was also married and had an infant child. 

If anything is tragic, it is this case. Everyone loses. 

The Barajas' have lost their two sons. 

If David Barajas is convicted and goes to prison, his wife and remaining 2 children have lost their husband and father. 

Jose Banda has lost his life and his wife and child have lost their loved one.

And all of this is over drinking and driving while drunk.

God help us. Do not drive drunk or doped up. 

It is better to do this
than to drive
and kill people
while drunk

If you are partying:

take a taxi
take a bus
ask a sober friend to drive you home

phone somebody for help
stagger home on foot
crawl home on your hands and knees

It will be better for the world and for you, if you do. 

Do anything except drive a vehicle that can kill others.  

These drunk driving incidents are not "accidents".  They are vehicular homicides. 

Pray that David Jr. and Caleb are in heaven. Pray that they are at peace and are with God. Amen. 

Pray for the infant child of Jose Banda who will never know a father. Amen.
