Sunando Sen - pushed to his death in New York City

Sunando Sen, age 46, died on December 27, 2012, in a subway station in Queens, New York City. 

 He was pushed onto a subway track at about 8:00 p.m. He was struck by a train and killed instantly. 

A heavyset Hispanic woman in her 20's was observed pacing and mumbling on the platform before taking a seat alone on a wooden bench. Then as the train approached the station, she suddenly shot forward, shoving Sunando onto the tracks and directly into the path of an oncoming train. 

A 31 year old woman has been taken into Police custody in connection with this murder.

Sunando was born in India and settled in New York in the early 1990's. He was a college-educated graphic designer who recently opened his own printing business in Manhattan. He worked 7 days a week to make his business succeed despite a heart condition that often left him exhausted.

Friends describe him as a nice person, gentle and a hard worker. 

Sunando is survived by many loving friends and relatives in America and in India. 

God save us from the Insane Ones who wander the streets and kill strangers for no reason. Amen.

Let us pray that Sunando Sen is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

    Some subway systems around the world are actually being retrofitted with safety systems to cut down on push-deaths (and accidents and suicides). So why not New York City? Last year, 146 people were struck by subway trains in New York City. Of those, 47 were killed. That amounts to one accident every 2.5 days, many of which would conceivably have been prevented by a feature now widely used around the world.
