Matthew Stiltz

Sgt. Matthew H. Stiltz, age 26, of Spokane, Washington, died on November 12, 2012, at Zerok, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. 

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. 

Matthew was a Shadle Park High School graduate who joined the Army shortly after completing school in June of 2005. He arrived at Fort Riley in February of 2006. 

This was his third deployment. He served two deployments to Iraq before this last deployment to Afghanistan.  Matthew was posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant.

High school officials describe Matthew as respectful and patriotic. 

Family members stated that Matthew loved being a soldier and wanted to make a lifetime career of it. He is described as smart, funny and stubborn - a good brother and a good friend. 

Military comrades stated that they are proud to have served with him. 

Matthew is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Mark and Terri Stiltz; his brother, Jeff Stiltz; his sister, Kristin Stiltz; and his wife, Brooke Stiltz. 

Thank you for serving, Matthew. 

Let us pray that Matthew Stiltz is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

He was a pain at times but yes is was a good friend, always had everyone's back. Unfortunately I did not stay in touch with him like I should of. No matter what he was and will alawys be part of the Attack Company family. RIP.
