Her body was found on October 19, 2012 on Larch Mountain, a 40-minute drive up winding roads from her home in Gresham. She had been shot to death.

Whitney was reported missing on the morning of October 16, when she did not show up for work at Starbucks, which was just a five-minute drive from her home. Shortly after, her Ford Explorer was found abandoned in a Walmart parking lot with its passenger-side window shattered.
Jonathan Holt, age 24, an acquaintance and neighbor of Whitney and Clint Heichel, has been arrested in connection with this crime, after a series of interviews reportedly didn't add up and they found his fingerprints and DNA in her recovered car. Holt is married and attended the same Jehovah's Witness church as Clint and Whitney.
Clint Heichel stated that Whitney was very kind and loved everybody. He also describes her as a beautiful person. They had been married for less than two years.
Whitney's mother described her as sunshine in their hearts. She's gentle and compassionate.

Whitney is survived by many loving friends and relatives including her mother, Lorelei Ritmiller; 5 sisters and 1 brother; and her husband, Clint Heichel.
Pray for all who die young and suddenly. They are with us one moment and gone the next. Amen.
God save us from the Lost Ones who stalk the Earth stealing away life. Amen.
Let us pray that Whitney Heichel is in heaven. Let us pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
