Joseph Olivieri - Law Enforcement - New York

Police Officer Joseph Olivieri, age 43, died in the line of duty on October 18, 2012, on Long Island, New York.

Joseph was a member of the Nassau County Police Department. He had 14 years of service with the Department and 5 prior years of service with the New City Police Department.

Joseph was investigating an accident on the Long Island Expressway, near Exit 35. He had exited his patrol car when another vehicle entered the crash scene and struck him. 

He was transported to North Shore University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The 25 year old driver of the vehicle that struck Joseph has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving. 

Local officials describe Joseph as a cop's cop, who was loved by everyone. He is also described as a heroic man.

Joseph is survived by many loving friends and relatives including 2 grown children. 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty. Amen.
