A Taliban suicide bomber disguised as a woman and wearing a burqa, walked up to a group of French soldiers in a public market and blew himself up. Four French soldiers were killed in the explosion and five others wounded.
Stéphane had served France for over 12 years. He enlisted in November of 1999.

He had previously served in Yugoslavia, Kosovo, Ivory Coast, Afghanistan and Chad. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.
Military officials describe him as an excellent leader and a professional. It is also stated that he was well respected by his commanders and his peers.
His awards and decorations include the Gold Medal of National Defence (staple guns), the Overseas Medal with clasp "Republic of Côte d'Ivoire" and the French Commemorative Medal with clasps "Former Yugoslavia" and "Afghanistan".
Stéphane is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his two children.
