Alexander Povilaitis

Staff Sgt. Alexander G. Povilaitis, age 47, of Dawsonville, Georgia, died on May 31, 2012, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when the enemy attacked with an improvised explosive device. 

He was assigned to 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord. 

Alexander served in the Army from 1984 to 1987 as a radio operator. He rejoined the service as a reservist in March of 2008, and returned to active-duty in September of that year.

This was his first deployment to Afghanistan. 

He served in Iraq from November of 2009 to July of 2010. He joined his unit at Lewis-McChord in June of 2011. That battalion deployed in July of 2011.


Alexander had received a number of awards and decorations including the Bronze Star. 

Alexander is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, 3 sons and a daughter. 

Let us pray that Alexander Povilaitis is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
