Thomas Fogarty

Staff Sgt. Thomas K. Fogarty, age 30, of Alameda, California, died on May 6, 2012, in Ahmad-Kheyl, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Thomas graduated from Alameda High School in 2000. He joined the Army in January of 2004 and deployed to Afghanistan in April of 2012. Before his deployment, he had been a recruiter for the military.

High school officials describe him as a regular kid, quiet but with a sense of humor.
Light a candle for Thomas.
Light his way to Heaven.

Friends describe him as a brave man who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. He is also described as caring, unselfish and independent.

Thomas is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother; his father, Thomas Fogarty; his stepfather, Mike Fisher; his wife Vanessa and their two sons, aged 5 and 2.

Let us pray that Thomas Fogarty is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
