He was a forward observer, on the front lines to identify and communicate enemy positions for other units. He was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, and served with the 5-20 infantry Regiment attached to the 82nd Airborne Division.
This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.

Nicholas graduated from Stewartville High School and studied at Rochester Community and Technical College.
Family members describe him as adventurous, kind and humorous. They also said he was a loving brother.
Nicholas is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, Jacqueline Carson; step-father, Randy Carson; and his 9 year old brother, David.
Let us pray that Nicholas Dickhut is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
