Lee Davies

British Lance Corporal Lee Thomas Davies, age 27, died on May 12, 2012, in the Lashkar Gah district of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. 

Lee was a member of 1st Battalion Welsh Guards. 

He and another soldier were providing security for a meeting with local officials when two people wearing Afghan police uniforms opened fire on them, killing them both. One of the policemen was shot dead in an ensuing gunfight and the other fled and has yet to be caught.

The 27-year-old was born in Carmarthen and grew up in Cardigan. After school he was self employed before starting his career at the Infantry Training Centre Catterick in October 2009.

He successfully passed out from Catterick in April 2010, joining the Welsh Guards. On May 2010 he was posted to 1st Battalion Welsh Guards at Lille Barracks in Aldershot. He was selected to attend the Lance Corporal promotion cadre, subsequently promoting in December 2011. In March of 2012, he was deployed to Afghanistan as part of a Police Advisory Team, based in the Lashkar Gah District of Helmand Province.

Family members stated that they are devastated by the loss of their loved one, who will never be forgotten.

Military officials stated that Lee loved being a soldier and had a bright future ahead of him. He is also described as professional, a talented leader, popular, dutiful and brave.

Lee is survived by many loving friends and relatives.

Let us pray that Lee Thomas Davies is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
